چکیده

Our interest in causality reasoning in physics was enhanced by the need to formalize reasoning in physics. In medicine, geophysics, and in many other applications areas, expert systems use automated expert reasoning to help the users; see, e.g., (2). We expect that similar systems may be helpful in general theoretical physics as well. To design such systems, we must formalize physicists’ reasoning inside an automated computer system. To do this, we must be able to describe physicists’ reasoning in precise terms. Physicists’ reasoning has a clearly formalized part: indeed, physical theories are usually formulated in terms of differential equations

Equations Without Equations: Challenges on a Way to a More Adequate Formalization of Causality Reasoning in Physics

Not all mathematical solutions to physical equations are physically meaningful: e.g., if we reverse all the molecular velocities in a breaking cup, we get pieces self-assembling into a cup. The resulting initial conditions are “degenerate”: once we modify them, self-assembly is no longer observed. So, in a physical solution, the initial conditions must be “non-degenerate”. A challenge in formal...

Presentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall

Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been  introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the  substitution  of  the  blood  pressure  changes  in  the  central  arteries  such  as  carotid  with  the  blood  pressure  changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...

Similarity Orders from Causal Equations

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that, contrary to the received wisdom, causal reasoning can be formalized wholly within the framework of Lewis’ conditional logic. To this aim we simulate causal reasoning based on structural equations in Lewis’ order semantics. This reduction is based on a formalization of an intuitive idea for computing relative similarity between worlds. Worlds are...

Numerical Solution of Weakly Singular Ito-Volterra Integral Equations via Operational Matrix Method based on Euler Polynomials

Introduction Many problems which appear in different sciences such as physics, engineering, biology, applied mathematics and different branches can be modeled by using deterministic integral equations. Weakly singular integral equation is one of the principle type of integral equations which was introduced by Abel for the first time. These problems are often dependent on a noise source which a...

Factoring Health Equations; Comment on “Do You Recommend an Interdisciplinary Field to Your Graduate Student?”

The International Journal of Health Policy and Management (IJHPM) is a new journal that aims to stimulate not only inter-disciplinary research relating to health, but even an entire new generation of such journals. The challenges of improving human health worldwide clearly suggest ‘why’ such a journal is needed, but ‘how’ bridges and junctions across fields of study towards this end might be fo...
